Video call

Michael: Hey Olga, can you hear me?

Olga: Hi Michael, yes, I can hear you but I can’t see you!

Michael: Oh, my webcam is off.

Olga: Click on the webcam icon on the screen.

Michael: Ah, wait a minute. OK. Now can you see me?

Olga: Yes! I like your background picture of the moon! Cool! Can you see me?

Michael: Yes, but I can’t hear you very well. Is there a problem with your microphone?

Olga: I don’t think so. Wait, I can increase the volume. Is that better?

Michael: Yes, perfect! Now I can hear you. Is Kenji going to join the call?

Olga: I don’t know. I sent him an invitation with the password but he didn’t answer. Ah, wait, here he is! Hi Kenji!

Michael: I can’t see him. I can only see you.

Olga: Oh, you can probably only see the speaker. Choose the option to see all the people in the call, I think it’s called “gallery view”.

Michael: Ah, OK, that’s it. Now I can see both of you. Hi Kenji!

Michael: Hey Olga, how’s it going? Can you hear me OK?

Olga: Hi Michael, yes, I can hear you, the sound quality’s perfect, but I can’t see you!

Michael: Oh, my webcam is switched off, how do I turn it on?

Olga: Click on the webcam icon in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen.

Michael: Ah, hang on a minute. OK, got it. Now can you see me?

Olga: Yes! That lunar landscape picture you’ve got in the background is cool! Can you see me?

Michael: Yes, but I can’t hear you very well. Are you sure your mic’s working?

Olga: I think so. Wait, I can turn up the volume a bit. How’s that?

Michael: Yes, loads better! Now you’re clear as a bell. Is Kenji going to join us?

Olga: I don’t know. I sent him an invitation with the link and password but haven’t had a reply yet. Ah, wait, here he is! Hi Kenji!

Michael: How come I can’t see him? I can only see you.

Olga: Oh, you’ve probably got “speaker view” selected. Choose the “gallery view” option.

Michael: Ah, OK, that worked. Now I can see both of you, and me! Hi Kenji!

Video call

Michael: Hey Olga, how’s it going? Can you hear me OK?

Olga: Hi Michael, yep, I can, the sound quality’s spot on, but I can’t see you!

Michael: Oh wait, my camera light’s not on, my webcam must’ve got switched off somehow. How do I turn it back on?

Olga: See the webcam icon in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen? Is there a cross through it? If so, click on it and it should come on.

Michael: Hang on a mo. Right, got it. Can you see me now?

Olga: Yeah! Hooray! Wow, that lunar landscape you’ve set as your background is awesome! I tried setting one up but my PC’s too old, it doesn’t have good-enough specs. Can you see me OK?

Michael: Yes, but your voice is very faint. Are you sure your mic’s working properly?

Olga: I think so. Wait, let me turn up the volume a bit. How’s that?

Michael: Yes, loads better! Now you’re clear as a bell. Is Kenji going to join us?

Olga: I don’t know. I shared the meeting ID and password with him but no sign of him yet. Your guess is as good as mine. Ah, talk of the devil! Hi Kenji!

Michael: How come I can’t see him? I can only see you.

Olga: Oh, you’ve probably got “speaker view” selected, try switching to “gallery view”.

Michael: Ah, OK, wicked. Now I can see us all side by side! Hi Kenji!
